Ruben Amorim says Manchester United played like ‘an adult team’ in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Sunderland.

The Reds, with Senne Lammens making his debut in net, stormed into a two-goal lead, through composed finishes from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko.

Robin Roefs in the Sunderland goal kept the score down at times, while Lammens also produced key saves in each half to enable United to keep a first clean sheet of 2025/26, in Amorim’s 50th game in charge of the club.

Here’s how Ruben reacted to ‘a good, but not perfect’ performance in his post-match interviews with MUTV, BBC Sport and more…

Amorim: We were an adult team

INTERVIEW | Ruben talks about Lammens, Amad and Sesko as he assesses a third straight home win in 2025/26…

WE WERE GOOD, NOT PERFECT

“Of course it’s so much better to win games. We were a team that were an adult team. We didn’t play well all the game, but we had our moments and we defended well. I think Senne did a great job and gave us confidence. It was a good day, not a perfect day, but to win like this with a clean sheet is important for our team.”

REDS HELPED SENNE

“We need to understand that we need everyone to be ready to play. It’s a long season, we have a lot of problems, anything can happen. The important thing is that the teammates helped Lammens a lot to have a very good performance.”

THREE OUT OF THREE AT OT

“Every team, especially the big teams, need to win every game at home, but we need to perform the same way at home and away.”

IMPACTFUL AMAD

“It’s not just the way he attacks, but the way he defends. He runs forward a lot and he’s always a threat when he has the ball one against one. We are really pleased with him and we missed him a lot last game, so he did really well.”

SESKO MORE THAN JUST GOALS

“He has the potential to do so much more. That is the good thing on Ben. The small details, not just on the goals. Of course, he lives for the goals and the media puts a lot of pressure on him to score as a striker but the important thing is that every time we kicked the ball today he was there, every time, and for me it’s the most important thing. We have to build [him] up because in this club we have to perform but he’s doing really well. He’s working really well, and again he has a lot to improve.”

ON TO ANFIELD

“We have to forget that game. Of course it’s really important to win games and have a better feeling but we need to forget this game and go for the next one, so tomorrow we just forget about everything. We need to win the next one.”
